I just found out that I have to pay somewhere around 10k in state taxes to a state in which I don’t live, for property I sold five years ago, and for which I already paid nearly 20k to the federal government.

Boo.

Ignorance is not always bliss.

CRAP.

Updated to say that, in addition to owing tax, there is interest added on top of that.  I am seriously sick to my stomach.

Good grief you are in the wars at the moment aren’t you!

Here’s hoping 2010 is a much better one for you.

Sending you love and strength across the pond to where you are.

Don’t open any more mail that doesn’t obviously look like a Christmas card until after New Year. What you don’t know can’t ruin Christmas!

Oh shit.

That’s awful, especially as you say on top of everything else you’re dealing with. Hang in there lovely, and concentrate on your beautiful boys.

I haven’t done Christmas cards this year – too frantic and something had to give – so I’ll say it here. Have a wonderful Christmas, making your own traditions and rituals, and enjoying some well earned relaxation and family time. Thinking of you all the time, even if I don’t get around to Christmas cards!
